'Getting Faster' series

getting faster, going faster, how to get fast in simracing, series

This page gives an overview of all blog articles related in becoming a faster driver (in sim racing). Sim racing is about simulating the real world, so the tips and tricks in these articles should also work in real life racing. Just try it out in real life racing and let me know! ;-)

Disclaimer:
Please note that the title of this series is "getting faster" and not "being the fastest". Regardless of how fast you are already today, you can always go faster. This series is actually a description of my own journey in becoming a faster driver. All the knowledge and experience I have gathered are for sure contributing in getting faster every time, one second a time (to be honest, it's more 0.2 sec a time :-)

I have got my knowledge and insights from:
-- reading well-known books about (real life) racing
-- looking up info on the old interwebs: blogs, videos, podcasts ...
-- googling for car/track combination video's: how are other drivers attacking this track?
-- reading about car technology and car dynamics (physics)
-- investigating telemetry data: my own and others

I have got my driving experience from:
-- doing a lot of laps in practice sessions in iRacing
-- doing deliberate practice sessions
-- doing a lot of racing on iRacing: both real races and AI races
-- following online training myself

Practice practice practice

There is a difference between building up theoretical knowledge about driving faster and actually doing it. Knowing is one thing, doing is another. So be patient, because you'll need to put the hours in and learn by doing. It's my personal belief that if you have also the theoretical background on how to drive fast, you'll improve faster because you can practice more deliberately, more focused. Repetition leads to mastery and continual learning must be on your mind. Don't forget that if you improve 1% each day, you'll be twice as good in only 70 days! Create a kind of structure and approach that works for you, and then rinse and repeat.
