MotoGP
MotoGP is the premier class motorcycle road racing series, with Grand Prix events held on road circuits sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme or FIM in short. The name of the world championship series has been changed over the years, with the MotoGP era starting in 2002. It is the oldest established motorsport world championship. Don't forget to watch the MotoGP documentary Hitting the apex on Netflix.
Motorcycles
The MotoGP motorcycles are purpose-built racing machines that are unavailable for purchase by the general public, so they are not road legal and basically you can say that they are prototypes. Before 2002, the top class were two-stroke 500 cc machines, but currently the MotoGP machines are four-stroke 1000cc monsters. The minimum weight is 157 kg in accordance with FIM regulations. The amount of horsepower they can generate is a well-kept secret amongst the manufacturers, but expect it to be around 270 and even higher (numbers of 2020 season).
Drivers
The most successful rider in Grand Prix history is Giacomo Agostini with 15 titles and 122 race wins, followed by active riders Valentino Rossi with seven and Marc Márquez with six.
